Hands on hatching and help

Most seem to be getting stuck to the shells this stuff is like glue. Think I will have to help them all out! I'll do the same as I done with the rest and take it nice and slow. When they finally get out can I bathe them in warm water to get it off?

I'm new but my gut instinct would be to leave them without bathing them. so long as their nose holes are clear I think they would sort out themselves. I've understood it is perfectly normal to have babies rest for long periods, I would not risk opening the incubator if everyone is getting stuck it might be that the humidity is too low already.

I used the dry hatch method on these I think that's why they are sticky. Got 2 out resting and 3 absorbing the last bit of yolk so hopefully today or tomorrow all will be ok. Duck hatches stress me out the most!

Yes you can. If you have dawn blue liquid you can use that as well. Just make sure you don't get any water in the nose holes.

If there's any excess liquid in the shell at hatch time, that will cause stickiness as it dries as well.

I've seen many pics the girls have put up that have a thick gel like substance left in the duck eggs after hatch. I would assume that would make them sticky.
Never had problems like that with my chicks.

That's exactly what it's like! It looks like honey and feels like superglue. The ones that are out can't open their eyes as their fluff is all hard from the sticky stuff. I haven't got any blue liquid would warm water do? Yeah I never had this with my chicks always with ducks though

Yeah, you can use warm water.

Do ducklings take long getting up and going aswell? None of the 2 are up still led on their sides is that normal?

They rest alot! But they should be moving around some.

A cracked egg can certainly be a bad egg, but if you candle it and see life, I would keep it. Also it should not be weeping or have anything coming out of it. I have had success with using wax dripped on an incubating egg over the crack, an the chick hatched and all is well. I've also had one go bad (but it was really damaged) I would candle and then decide.

@AmyLynn2374 - had a guy tell me about waxing most of the pointy end of an egg to slow down moisture loss. Air cell was growing too quickly, so he tried it, and it seemed to work. Slowed down the moisture loss. The duckling hatched with a problem and died, but don't think it had anything to do with the wax. Interesting theory though, huh.

Slowed down the moisture loss. The duckling hatched with a problem and died, but don't think it had anything to do with the wax. Interesting theory though, huh.

That is interesting. I'm assuming it was specifically one egg out of a clutch or he would have adjusted humidity?

Yes, just one or two eggs from a larger set of eggs.

they will rub the most of it off themselves, but bathing them is always fun. Post some pics when you get a chance.
