I have been reading all of the posts and you say that you can take the egg out of the incubator to candle even if it is after lockdown. I am new to all this.
I am hands on 100%. I will stick a washcloth dipped in hot tap water if I have to intervene. Monitor the humidity with my probe from my aux humidity reader. You can open the incubator after lockdown, yesJust make sure to get the humidity back up quickly afterwards.
I am hoping you guys can help me. Last night we had a chick hatch but it is very weak and his eyes are closed and not able to stand. Is there anything I can do to help this poor little guy. I think he really wanted to come into the world so bad he came early. This little guy also did not penetrate the air sac. He decided to skip that step.
I know it's been a while since u posted it but in my opinion as long as the chick has all it's vital organs in place it deserves a chance. I have a rooster with no feet. Peg legs is his name and he does wonderful. He's 2 yrs old now. Then I have a lady that's blind in one eye and a piece of skin that dangles over her other making it difficult to judge location of anything, food, bugs, etc but she is doing great. She's 3 yrs old and still gives me an egg a day. Maybe it's because I'm such an animal lover that I think everything deserves a chance at life.I need help with 2 chicks.
First one- I heard a strange sound from the incubator (Brinsea Ovation) like something grinding and a chick screaming. and then there was blood all over the incubator. Opened to find a bloody chick that I first thought was coming from the umbilical cord but upon inspection it was not the case. Instead it seems like one of his wings may have gotten caught in the fan while trying to jump over other eggs. Have applied corn starch and placed it in a separate bowl in the brooder. What else can I do? Apply Neosporin? Getting more mad at Brinsea.
2nd One- What is the best way to put down a chick. I just don't have the heart to do it. A newly hatched is:
I don't think it can survive like that but miracles do happen. Any other options?
- missing a toe &
- on the same leg, the portion between knee and ankle is missing and the whole foot is facing backwards. Its not a dislocation, its just backwards.
I use the electrolyte. If they are moving on their own just provide it in their water. If they are weak drop a drop down the side of it's beak, let it swallow and repeat. Just make sure do not get it in the nose.I have the save a chick electrolytes and probiotic. Would that work.
There are those of us that do.I know it's been a while since u posted it but in my opinion as long as the chick has all it's vital organs in place it deserves a chance. I have a rooster with no feet.
