Next year I want to get a rooster or two. What, in you folk's opinion, is the handsomest classic looking (and calmest) rooster? I like the wyandottes and welsummer's look.

My favorites are the Welsummer and Lakenvelder Roos....I have a Welsummer now and he is one of the most beautiful birds I have ever seen. My experience with both breeds is that they are really sweet birds. I have never had a mean bird from either breed. Good luck in your choice!

I'm partial to Cochins, although with their leg feathering they are not "classic." But they are mellow and quiet and so big. Even people who aren't into chickens ooh and aah over our boy when they come over.

Old English Game. To me, that's what a rooster should look like! Bright colors and proud attitude. The red color varieties really have that classic rooster look to them, like what you expect to see running around a farm.

Post some pictures!! Would love to see some of your handsome boys.

This is Fred, our partridge cochin rooster. The black shines metallic green on him, usually the reason for the oohs and aahs

Roos can be a pain in the back side sometimes but their beauty and the way the protect the girls make them worth it too me. By the way...LOVE the pics! You guys have some beautiful birds!!! Especially that Wellie!

I think that Black Copper Marans and anything in Partridge (Welsummer, Rocks, Cochin, Brown Leghorn, etc) has the classic rooster look.
