I am going to let my 8 week old hens outside for the first time this weekend.
I have bought a 30lb hanging feeder and a 5 gal waterer.
My question is.. when you hang the feeder, what stops it from swinging all around.
The Birds have quite a flock mentality and I was thinking that if I get all 7 eating at the same time, they could really get that thing swinging.

I keep my waterer on a concrete block. I'm afraid that if it could swing it would spill and empty itself too soon. As long as it's high enough i've had no problems. I made a pvc feeder that's strapped to the walls. I'm planning on making a video on how to make them soon.

Has anyone had problems with the Little Giant hanger waterers? I'm on my second one, a replacement .. . 3 gallons .. . .. I fill it and invert it and hang it and its ok for maybe a day or several hours or even longer and then I'll check on them randomly and the water just stops flowing. . .. and the chickens are out of water even though 5 gallons is still sitting right in front of them. Am I doing something wrong? The place I ordered them from was good about replacement but they are mail order only so there is no there to ask.

I have the same problem with mine- it seems the water is only about 1/4" deep. But the chicks do drink from it cuz the water level does go down. I never bothered to complain because it looked like a design flaw to me, not that something was wrong with that particular feeder. Wish I could figure out what was wrong with the design- till I do I can't really replace it, and if I knew maybe I could fix it!

Try enlarging the hole where the water comes out.

I've had some that had excess plastic in the hole from the molding process and wouldn't let air in, so the water wouldn't come out

It may swing alittle--but the weight of the feed pretty much keeps it in place...and like Mahonri said place high (at least shoulder) so they do not scratch and throw feed out and waste too much...
