Hanging out...is this love?

[My Three Chicks]

I have 6 girls. One of our favorite pastime is when I lie down on the sofa under the outdoor patio, they all pile up on me to hang out. They preen, sit, nap. Usually a couple them don't quite fit on me so hang out on the seat back above. The position on my chest is most coveted
(I'm under the colorful blanket).

I think its so sweet and definitely fills me with love. Although I couldn't adore them more already.

Do your chickens do this? Normal behavior? What does it mean?

Mine do more of a jump up, sit on my lap for a few minutes and hang out, then go back to doing chicken stuff. I consider your chickens "over socialized". Nothing bad at all just very very friendly chickens. the reason I say over socialized is just that it is more than most people are looking for (including me to an extent). Again it is only a personal preference and nothing wrong with that at all. They are all so cute!

Mine love to sit and preen around me too, it's so cute!! It probably just means they enjoy spending time around you!

Here comes the warning.... That beak to your shiny/glossy eyes can happen faster than you can react. It's all rainbows and unicorns til your sitting in an ER room.

This X2. Until you get very good at reading their body language you never want your face within reach of your chickens. You get maybe a second's worth of warning that they're about to peck something.

They often peck at things out of curiousity, like jewelry, moles, or some fly that's buzzing around you. Plus if they get startled because you sneeze or a pine cone bounces off your car, they tend to kick and flick their wings as they flee.

As someone who's had a scratched cornea more than once, they're extremely painful and if inflicted by a chicken likely to get infected.

Yikes that sounds very painful.
Yeah they are funny about that. That's why I never wear any jewelry in the yard/run with them. I haven't had one peck my eye before fortunately. But one of them had tried to peck my front teeth a few times

I do team meetings every morning and if I have to get specific and finger pointing at them, it all goes south when they start thinking my finger is a hot dog...

Focus girls!! FOCUS !!!
