Does anyone know where you can purchase a true hanging waterer? I see some advertised as such but when you read the reviews they say they are defintiely not made for hanging.

All the ones I've seen are not durable. I use 3 gallon Little Giant waterers raised on mason blocks, wooden platforms, etc. This raises the water trough high enough so they can still drink but don't kick soil and other objects into the water.

I am not a fan of hanging waterers. They take up space, must be cleaned daily or they get gross green growth and are haigh maintenance. A setup with waterer cups can hold more water in an external easy to fill bucket and go along the wall so it does not take up space. It is not exposed so the tank doesn't get gross and is much easier. If you prefer hanging waterers, I'd search Amazon but I'd look at automatic waterers first.

Any farm store should have them. I have a two gallon galvanized one that works great. As soon as I started hanging it, I realized I had to change the water less often and it was much cleaner than when it wasn't hanging.

I'm in the same boat as you dr1939. I found the plastic ones and thought about drilling holes in the top to hang and fill but thought that those probably aren't sturdy enough. And I don't want the large galvanized one yet. Too big for my coop. So if someone out there can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Waters aren't designed to be hung up but feeders are. Maybe the reason you can't find a good hanging waterer is because they aren't designed and built to be hung up even though some people have limited success with hanging ones like the double walled galvanized waterers. I doubt that you could find a hanging water buy searching Amazon or Ebay, I wouldn't waste my time on it.

Take BELLEVUEOMLET advice and search for an automatic waterer and set you up a small system. I strongly suggest that you don't use nipple waterers inside your coop as they will leak a little and leave wet spots. If your waterer is inside then you can use the water cups she shows in her picture and if it is going to be outside I suggest that you search on Ebay and get the horizontal nipples as they are the best there is. The standard red nipples that are real inexpensive work ok but they do leak a lot when the birds drink out of them. The horizontal nipples (see ebay seller #195319531) have great reviews in this forum as do the water cups.

I have 4 waterers hanging in coops right now. Came from TSC. I use baling twine and a double end snap to hang them with. They are not huge, and my 3 and 5 gallon waterers sit in the ground outside coops, but the smaller ones have a little loop in the handle for hanging and work just fine.
