Hello everyone! I am a new chicken mama and am excited to join the group to learn all I can. I did a lot of research and purchased two little chicks, I am still unsure of the breed and sex of both, Im sure my Charlotte is a girl, Bonnie...well she may be a Brian HAHA!
I live in the city of St. Pete Fl and we just got approval for City Chicks. Hens only, so I hope they are both hens!! Looking forward to talking to other chicken owners and learning a lot! Thanks!!

Congrats on your new babies! I will be keeping my fingers crossed they both are pullets. I have a friend here on BYC that is not allowed to keep roosters and she got two of them when she picked out her chicks. She fell in love with them and just couldn't imagine rehoming them, so she just had them de crowed!! So this is an option if you can find a qualified vet.

Thanks everyone! Ill get some good shots of my girls (I hope) and post them. I am looking forward to learning with these two and growing our coop! I can see BYC is going to be my GO TO!
 
Well, I failed as a chicken mama this time. I woke up this morning amd found thay something had gotten into the coop and killed my chicks. I feel horrible that I didnt make the coop stronger or something!!?! Im not going to let it kill my dream of a big coop full someday, so, back to the drawing board. 1st stop, home depot. Gotta build an anti-chicken killer coop!
 
So sorry about your chicks, it is awful to lost them to predators. You might want to post in the Predator forum for help with identifying and catching/ dealing with the predator you have https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/13/predators-and-pests and how to strengthen the defenses of the coop. The Coop/Run Design forum is another good one to post on, you could post pictures of your coop set up for input or suggestions https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/9/coop-run-design-construction-maintenance Good Luck dealing with the animal, and sorry again about the chicks you lost.
