Happiness is... moving the chicks outside! *pics*

Mine are about 3.5 weeks old - when can they outside for good? I have a pretty nice enclosed coop that they will be able to be in during the night. We live in Northern California - 90 right now during the day and probably 55 at night. There are 6 and they snuggle up together.

I did enjoy having the chicks inside, but at three weeks the dust from the chips was intolerable. They are much happier in their new coop. Good luck with your little ones.

Most say that chicks can be put in an outside coop at 6-8 weeks depending on your weather. I live where it is about 70 in the day and 50's at night. At seven weeks my six chicks are roosting in their new little hen house and not seeking the heat lamp we put on in the night. That will be shut off in the next few days. I don't think they need it anymore. I would wait until your chicks are fully feathered as they don't produce enough body heat when they are fluff. Good luck

Edited to add: I do turn a heat lamp on for them at night. Just in case. Once in a while one will go over to warm up so I will leave it on until they quit completely.
