Happy 4th of July to Us....Dodging Bullets in Georgia

I'm in a suburb of Los Angeles,(Covina) and it sounds like a war zone here. Neighbors on all sides are setting off fireworks, I thought it was illegal here to have them, but I've sen cop cars cruising the street and not paying any attention. Guess it will be awhile before I get to sleep tonight.

There were fireworks last night in the woods, but my old dog (almost 15 years) is deaf enough that she didn't hear them this year. She even slept through the night, something very rare indeed.

If this year is like all others since we've been here, it isn't over, though. They'll keep using their supply till it's all gone so I'll have a week of sporadic popping every night.

It is a shame people get a warning the first time.I think a fine and/or jail time for almost killing someone would be a more effective deterent than a warning. We give people way to many chances, and in the end some innocent life is altered or ended.

As for fireworks, here in Ohio you just sign a paper when you buy them at the store stating you will not use them in Ohio. What a joke. The police station is less than a mile and ALL AROUND people have been blowing off stuff all week long.Shoot, one house almost across from the station did a colorful display for a good hour.Maybe the police sat and watched.

Deterrent? Cops are not there to deter crime an actually have no power to do so. A cops job is to catch criminals after they have done a crime or in the act but not before.

What would the cop charge him with? Almost breaking the law? Then we start writing tickets for almost speeding, exc..

The law is pretty simple, you ether have to fire a gun at someone with intent to do harm or you have to do actual harm. Without ether actual harm or prof of intent to do harm there is no crime.

I find it ironic that although so many shot off guns and fireworks to 'Honor the 4th', my neighbor across the street (quarter mile back) and I were the only people on our road to display the American flag.

I would have to look at our state's laws but I would suspect that there are laws on the books regarding negligent discharge of a firearm. Firing a firearm into the air without knowing where the bullet or shot will land is a prime example. The trick is to know the code and inform officers of it during their investigation.

I dont think Tn has any such law. It has one about being so close to a house or road if I remember right but not shooting in the air. Now if you shoot in to the air an hit someone then that became a crime when it hit the person. I may be wrong though. You can read all of the Tn state laws here though. http://www.lexisnexis.com/hottopics/tncode/default.asp

Ga is easier to keep up with cause locals are banned by the state to make gun laws. Gun laws are made by the state an are the same state wide with one or two exceptions.

Tn has some weird laws...I heard that a 5 year old was arrested for throwing a temper tantrum in class.
Searched it in google and found nothing so most likely false.

EDIT: unless what you consider a temper tantrum is getting mad over your juice and stabbing 3 of your family members. A 5 year old did do that, but says nothing about TN
