I was planning on having a nice, quiet, unexciting day today as I don't really "do" my birthday. And it worked until my 6yo son saw a mouse disappear under a palm frond and kicked it...
First sign of trouble was a blood curdling scream right behind me. I was engrossed in a book and tangled up in blankets (it's winter here), so it took me awhile to get vertical and outside, by which time DH got our boy's boot off. So unfortunately the first thing I saw was blood, lots if it. And I cannot stand the sight of blood, especially if it's my child's. One of the spikes went through his boot and into his foot, puncturing an artery. I pulled his sock off and the blood spurted like a little fountain. NOT a nice sight, I can assure you! DH got a bandage and some swabs and we tied that around his foot. I then phoned the doctor's surgery and asked if we can bring him in quick. Luckily I know the receptionist well and she let us see the doc immediately. The bleeding stopped by the time we got there and the doctor examined it, bandaged it properly and told DH what to look out for (redness, swelling). We bought the little guy a very nice ice cream, so he's quite happy and already running around again. Mom's contemplating a large drink at 16:00... Suppose I could make an exception today?

Was an... interesting day. Definitely one I won't forget in a hurry.

Thanks, all of you. The little guy is running around and he says his foot feels much better. I'm glad as he was still in quite a bit of pain last night when he went to bed. Refused to take any pain meds though. Tough guy.
The day had one last surprise in stock for me... I went outside just before going to bed (that didn't happen 'till much later LOL) and walked slap into a dog. We don't own a dog. I don't allow any dogs on our property for health and safety reasons. It was the last thing I was suspecting when I walked out the door with my pathetic little flashlight and it scared the life out of me, suddenly lighting up this creature right in front of me! DH swears I squealed (I did NOT

), but I in return did scare the carp out of the dog who turned out to be the neighbour's, and it took us some time to track her down and get her back home and secured by her owner. I'm embarrassed to say that thing gave me such a fight I was still shaking half and hour later

A nice big glass of cider helped calm my nerves though. Gosh, what a day!

What a day! Glad you survived and hope you have many more-minus the blood and escaped dogs!
