4 years (+ a couple of days) ago, my husband and I drove deep into the woods to meet a man about some ducks. He had two survivors from an absolutely horrific Fisher attack that had killed all of his chickens and almost all of his ducks. Broken-hearted, he handed them over with some grain and a bag of their beloved mealworms. Daphne and Margie were, at the time, 2 years old. Margie was a beautiful and sweet Pekin, Daphne was scraggly and skittish Rouen. Margie passed away that summer from a sudden and unknown illness. Daphne lived on, despite chronic reproductive issues. Fast forward 4 years, and Daphne is a strong and sassy 6 year old. I don’t think she’ll make it too many more years, but I’m thankful for whatever time we have left with her.
Heres some pictures taken throughout the years. The first was taken the day we adopted them. Daphne was so skinny and ragged!
