"I know it hurts baby. I'm sorry" she said, quickly taking it off. She looped the lead rope loosely around her neck instead. "C'mon girl"

Skyler stood by Starfire's stall, not far from Mike, crying quietly. Skyler had never met Mike, for the last two years she had been travelling the world to compete with Starfire, and there were many unfamiliar faces when she returned. But that didn't matter.

Starfire nudged Skyler's cheek with his nose gently, and Annekin whinnied at her, as if to tell her it was all okay.

"Good girl" she said soothingly, over and over as she led her into her stall. She tied her and brought in more bedding to the near-bare concrete floor. She continued to layer bedding till it was about 2 and a half feet thick. She then grabbed a soft brush and began to brush the horse. "Good girl"

Splash relaxed closing her eyes sleepily

Skyler watched after the horse, then turned to Starfire. "Come on boy... Let's... let's go out for a little while." Then she saw Mike. She immediatly realized how awful she must look, having been crying. She put her helmet on and tried to hide her face as she tied Starfire up and begun to tack him up.
