Happy Labor Day AND First Egg Day!

This morning after returning to their yard after terrorizing my veggie garden, one of the RIR's went into a nest box. First time in and out less than 45 minutes later. OURS is the little brown egg, from one of our 4 RIR's the large white egg is just an OLD large store bought egg. Our flock is 21 weeks old today.

Gosh, just how many ways can you say exciting.

I got my first egg today too! I was so excited! It was bigger than I expected--because it was a double-yolker! Then I found another egg later in the day. My kids dubbed it Luck Day, because my younger son lost his first tooth, they found a turtle, we got two eggs, and they didn't have school on a Monday!

I got our first egg today too from one of our Rhode Island reds at 20 weeks and 3 days old....what a day of labor for the chickens!! ;LOL

My very first egg ever!!!! It's from an Australorp.

Another first egg weekend here too! We got a little half size one from one of our Golden Comets. Nothing since then (that was Saturday).

Anything I should do to encourage laying in the box? I assume this takes practice for them?

I have five hens.
