Happy mother's day to Carol the Muscovy wonder duck. she is hatching this morning. I count four little heads and more breaking out of the eggs...... Father Daryl, and her friend Beth,

are nervously pacing outside the coup. The chickens are one by one coming in to pay respects. This is her first batch and she has been an excellent mother.

Well its been quite a day. Ive never had baby ducks born. Naturally I am out there a lot. Carol doesn't seem to mind and I talk to her and the little ones are hearing my voice. One, stuck its widdle head out through her chest and looked at me. I have no idea what is going on under there she isn't moving off the nest. I took her some tasty worms and cantaloupe.

I have a question. There are yellow and black ones. Black and white ones. Brown ones. My drake is black and white like she is. I got her three months ago, she was about a year old. this is her first laying. Could she have been fertilized when I got her? She didn't lay for about a month and my drake is the only one around?

According to what little knowledge I have, they carry genes for certain colors even though their coloring might be a different dominant color.
My scovies came from a white muscovy hen, but the father was chocolate. My drake is a black pied and my ducks are chocolate pied. I have no white ones.

Thank you. I am amazed by these Muscovys. I've only had them three months and it seems like there is always something to learn.

BTW......AT LEAST 10 probably more under her.
