New to BYC and a BY chicken owner. I started in the spring of 2014. I had been thinking about starting a flock and hubby just listened to amuse me. It was a beautiful spring night and a friend of ours decided to have friends over. At this party I met my chicken dealer. For FREE she gave me a small coop, 12 chicks and said if you get any roos call me. I've been hooked since. I've returned about 8 roos and in turn she gives me more chicks. I currently have, 2 austrolopes, 2 Sicilian buttercups, 2 barred Plymouth rocks, 1 I'm not sure, 1 silkie and one very handsome rooster. 5 of the ladies are laying. Hubby enjoys them now. He even gave up his shed for the flock. :0) he's the best!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. What a great gift from your chicken dealer. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. They are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting lots more eggs.
