Nearly 9 months ago we moved to another house in our same area. My family has a "family" cat -- a cat that has been passed around over the years and only within our own family. He's kinda our family mascot. I got my mom to buy him from the feedstore I worked at when I was in highschool. He's 13 years old now and has lived with my Mom and I, then Me with my room mates, then my sister, then back to my Mom, then to my sister, then when we moved here he came to be with me when my sister moved and couldn't have him in her apartment. That was fine! His name is Tim. Tim is the best kitty ever! Totally tolerant of little kids, dogs, and just everything. Perfect kitty.
I had him and our other cat in our largest dog crate so that they would get used to the new house and yard. When I did let them out, my Shepherd, Foenix, saw them out the sliding door and barked. Tim freaked and jumped the privacy fence to the 50+ acres of heavy woods behind our house. Tim was gone! I reluctantly called my family and told them...after three days I couldn't find him at all. Being a senior kitty I figured he'd never survive out there with all the coyotes and weather.
But after almost 9 months the other day I was driving to the grocery store, when a familiar looking tabby ran across the road in front of my car. Tim? I rolled down my window and called his name. He called back and sure enough--there was Timmy! I was amazed. I pulled over and got out calling to him, he was scared so ran into some blackberry thicket. Ugh. I was in shorts too, of course. It took me almost an hour to get him to come up to me, wading through the blackberries. But finally, just when I was thinking that he was too scared to really realize who I was, I saw him through the brambles and he was picking his way to me slowly.
I finally got close enough to pick him up. What a reunion that was, he rubbed on my face and hands hard enough to kinda hurt!
I took him home and he's settling him nicely. My sister will be coming to pick him up next week, as I cannot have him here. But he still belongs to us all. We all missed him so badly, when I called my Mom to tell her she cried happy tears.
