(On a sincere level; your ducks are happy if they are in obvious good health and condition and exhibiting normal behavior on a frequent basis. If they are not preening, missing clumps of feathers, not poking around with their beaks, and just sitting about moping every day they are probably unhappy. If they're acting normal, active and look good and healthy they're probably happy.)

They are doing this normal stuff. They just are always muddy. They are very messy.
