SO with that said.. Let me tell you all about a "bad" day. Yesterday at 4 AM we had a bolt of lightning originate 10 feet from the house, boys room and ours!!!! (Weird thing was it almost was not even loud, the crack was so intense.) Stripped an 80 foot tall oak in a spiral pattern from bottom to top. )Shards of wood in a 50 yard radius! Popped up ground by the garage, and blew a whole through a table! Took out my electric fence charger.. Well around 9 AM we went into the garage. (My woodshop) Filled with smoke..FIRE! burned up cords on several pieces of equipment melted plastic sawdust extraction ducts, and burned a pile of sawdust and put a black coat of soot on everything. I got the fire out and the building is still standing. Washing machine got fried in the basement. Insurance deductible is $1000 so I will see if I make a claim or not.
If spending the morning coughing and eyes burning fighting fire and then cleaning up and repairing my equipment was not enough..... I believe an Osprey picked off one of my 6 week old blue Marans! And a 10 week old splash Ameraucana had its leg caught in some fishing line the boys left lay out. (I saved it as it just happened.)
Bad luck for the lighting strike.. Good luck none of us were hurt or killed and no buildings burned to the ground. This all on top of me finding out a few weeks ago I am not zoned for chickens, even though we live on 70 acres in the woods on a 1/2 mile long dead end road...
(I guess I will change my name from Organics North to Outlaw Eggs......)
With the only neighbors being supportive of the chickens and combined with them several hundred acres are owned between us.. I am going to ignore the insane zoning for know. Will make the case for rezoning a few 40's in the future.
Guess what.... Chin up.. Smile On... Its summer in the northwoods.. I will not let these things get me down.
