Hi! I'm a 29 yr old Jersey Girl who's finally getting into farming! I'm starting small, a small coop, 4 baby girl chickens (who's eggs will go to friends and neighbors) and a small vegetable garden. I'm SUPER new to the whole thing and I could definitely use some advise! I have a couple of friends with chickens currently who are definitely helping me out, but I'm great full to have found this place online that can help me too!!!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations and good luck with your new chicks! You'll find they make great pets and will help with fertilizer for the garden (and am sure they will be more than happy to help clean up any leftovers). A great place to start reading is the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping you'll find helpful. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
You might also like the BYC sister site, The Easy Garden! http://www.theeasygarden.com/
And it is always fun to check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/537/new-jersey

Hello and Welcome to BYC!! I am not Vegan but I respect your beliefs and a big mix of ppl from all over who have made my life easier by helping bring more natural food products to our area. We have food allergies so there are some Vegan things we can't eat, but everyone looking for more natural unprocessed foods have really helped bring more allergy free alternatives to the market and have helped the bigger pictures for my family and other families needing or wanting healthier foods!
There are lots of wonderful ppl her and tons of info on all sorts of topics that will help your little farm grow. We have a garden and Chickens too (plus 2 dogs) who knows where it will go from there. lol
