For all those second year chicken keepers and beyond, have faith. Starting tomorrow, days are getting longer. Egg laying commencement is just around the corner. Just a bit at first but the day length will increase more as what one might call the perigee of the earth's northern hemisphere or more accurately the earth's perihelium passes closer to the sun.
My condolences to those in the southern hemisphere who are now at their summer solstice and your days are now getting shorter. I especially feel bad for those who are dealing with extreme heat and the ravages of global warming. The raging fires of New South Wales and the devastating effects on koalas and other wildlife may just be the tip of the iceberg.
On this topic, I'd especially like to hear from those closer to the equator and learn of their experiences with egg laying as their days don't vary much in length vs. dark period.

Been nice and sunny and 'warm' on these shortest days of the year.
Wishing a Blessed Solstice to Everyone!

At my latitude/longitude, today will be 1 second longer than yesterday. Tomorrow will be 4 seconds longer than today.
That daily change will get greater as we go along.
January 1 will be 3:28 minutes longer than today.
By February 1, each day will be 2 minutes longer than the day before and the fact that the daily change increases means that February 7 will be a full hour longer than today.
For those in other locations, your results will absolutely vary.
