We got in a conversation the other day about cooking eggs. There were about 6 people in the lunch room at the time and there were 6 different recipes for making a hard boiled egg. SOOO, How do you do it? Start from filling the pot with water, dont assume anything. I think this could get interesting and definatly educational.

Put eggs and cold water in pot, turn on stove. bring to boil start timing 10 min later pull off, dump hot water fill with cold..

just know, grey yolks are overcooked

I usually don't have anything to offer in this section but, I found this method for boiling fresh eggs on BYC and it works. You can actually peel them without them falling apart.
Bring water to boil, add a pinch of salt, add eggs and boil 14 minutes then cool quickly and peel. I usually just run them under cold tap water.

I can hardboil just laid eggs with this recipe:

In a big pot bring lotsa water to a rolling boil.
Spoon in eggs
Boil for 20 min
Drain
Add as much ice to pot as it will hold, add a little water.
Wait 10-15 min and peel

I like to shake the eggs around in the pot to break the shell before I add the ice that way the water gets between the egg and the shell and the shells just fall off.

I learned this here on BYC and I get great results even from eggs that are still warm
