Hard pasty butt!

I have seven little chickies all around 13-14 days old, and out of them all, only my Light Brahma Clementine is Pasting up... I’ve been wiping but it just wasn’t enough so today I decided to run her bum under warm water and gently wipe it with a cotton ball. So, it’s really hard poop. It wasn’t really loosening up enough for me to work it off with my fingers. I got a bit off with scissors but I didn’t get too much because I was worried of cutting her. Thank goodness she basically SLEPT through the whole thing! Afterward I toweled her off and blow dried her butt on low heat then I put a bit of petroleum jelly on it and tried to smooth the poopie clumps down. There are two main little clumps, not blocking her vent though but I just don’t want it to keep building up... sorry I don’t have pictures they have been put to bed and I feel bad about waking them up but I could post tomorrow. All of them are eating medicated chick crumbles and have fresh water replaced 2 times daily. Heat is about 85ish degrees. What do you recommend? I was thinking of doing a bit more tomorrow, is that a good idea? Like I said not blocking her vent she can still “go” but her poops are either watery or sticky... help greatly appreciated!

Warm epsom salt soak should dissolve it pretty good. Chicken poo turns to cement!

Not sure what's recommended to feed her to try and help. Nutri Drench or some electrolyte eater won't hurt.

Someone else who knows pasty butt better should chime in soon.

Flyingnun is right. It may take a bit longer without the Epson salt. But warm water and soft wash clothe. Gently rub the hardened poo until it comes off. I only had to do that to my recent chicks maybe 3 times. Soon they shouldn't need it done anymore.

Doesn' look too bad though. And yes it seems rock hard at times but eventually with patience and constant running water it'll loosen. If by chance afterwards it slightly bless just put mild astrigent and watch chick to see if other peck it.

I trim the hair around the vent for chicks who had that issue.. you don't need to trim it too much just enough for poop not to stick.

Some people don't like this idea and strategy but it has worked fine for me

I just take a wet paper towel and soften it up and it comes off then a little Vaseline on the butt keeps it from sticking again

I just had to deal with this when I rescued my chicks from tractor supply and yes o called the store twice and yelled at both managers ( I used to work at that same store which ticked me off even more about it).

I used warm water and I wash cloth, not only gently rub it but also soaked her bum bum and after about 10 minutes it was able to come off, thankfully she was a champ and not phased by it.
