Hard red lump near rooster's ear, Help!

I noticed a pea size hard red lump near Goldie's ear. Should I take him to the vet? What would you do? Rooster is about 1 year old, overall very healthy and active as far as I can tell. Do I need to worry about this? On the picture below, you can see the lump near the ear hair and below his right eye. Is this an ear or eye issue? I really appreciate any help you can offer.

Can you put a warm compress on it for a few minutes and then try to pop it, with gloves on. Looks like it might be a pimple?
