We’ve had our quail over a year, and this has never happened before. Tonight I cracked open an egg, and the contents were like gelatin, thick thick gelatin. It didn’t smell bad. I had the eggs in the refrigerator, but I don’t think they got too cold and froze. And it’s summer, so they didn’t freeze in the coop. Any ideas? I was about to give away several eggs as gifts, and now I’m worried the recipient will get a weird egg. Thank you in advance!!

Not positive, but it may just be a little older... It might be a sick quail. Make sure they are all active and healthy.
Or another possibility is that the yolk might've popped inside and then hardened.

What species of quail? Sometimes I leave eggs in enclosures and they pressure of the dirt let’s air in and I get a ‘bad’ egg. I don’t think that this is your case though. Does the quail seem healthy? How old was the egg? (Roughly if you don’t know). It might just be that bacteria seeped through a tiny crack that you didn’t know about. :)
