hard to peel boiled eggs

My mom's trick is to put LOTS of salt in the boiling water--like 1/2 cup. Then you don't have to wait for your eggs to be a week old.

I boiled several FRESH out of the nest boxes eggs. So far my findings are:

I boiled some eggs in just water and nothing else. I tried boiling eggs in salted water and with vinegar in the water. I pricked a hole in the big end of the eggs and put some plain eggs in boiling water.

All but the egg boiled in the water with vinegar in it, peeled well as long as I ran some cold water over them to initially cool them off then put them in some ice water with plenty of ice and let them set for several minutes.

Do yourselves a favor and read the post that Msgenie posted...it works!! And on fresh eggs, too. I made potato salad the other day, and it was the first time I had ever boiled eggs...even tho Ive had chickens for 2 years. I did exactly how the thread said, even eggs that were still warm from the nest. They peeled PERFECTLY.

what i do i have hard boiled eggs ever other day for breakfast i boil them for 9 minutes on high then i put them in ice for about 2 minutes. them i take the egg roll it around on the counter until the entire shell is broken up and then i peel it and its pretty easy comes off great and there right from the nest box
