Hard ware wire

tin snips cut hardware cloth pretty good. I've read you should get angles ones, and I think that would be better, but I couldn't find any. Hardware cloth is a royal pain and I hate working with it. But I want safe chickens. I also heard painting the hardware cloth black makes it easier to see through. I wish I had done that.

I use a pair of bulldog aviation snips which allow you to keep your hands back somewhat from the wire while cutting.

I don't think she want's to cut the cloth. She wants to use it to keep the critters from digging in. I just lay mine on the ground with some kind of weight on it to hold it down until the grass grows through it and you will not see it.

I'm a newbie just beginning to build my coop and run. Are you saying that I don't have to bury the wire around the perimeter ? I just lay it on the ground? How does this help? And how far do I need to go out?

That's what I did, went out 8 to 12 inches. There are 2 schools of thought here. Some people think the predators will try to dig at the point the wire goes into the ground. Others think the hardware cloth should be buried in the ground 12 to 18 inches. I haven't seen any convincing evidence that either one is truly "correct". IMO - it's not easy, either way. So, whatever your heart tells you is the right thing to do.
