Hi everyone! This may just be a once in a while occurrence but I recently had to manually remove (using gloves and with my husband holding the chickens) hardened poop chunks from around the vents of my two EE's. Some were very hard to detach. My BO's do not have this problem despite having even fluffier butts than the EE's. Does anyone else do this for their chickens? I was concerned it would lead to a blockage if not removed. Thanks!

Yes that can happen if they have runny droppings, and more come along and get caked. Some hens are more prone to this because of their angles, or excess fluff. Also lice eggs around the lower abdomen, if they are afflicted, can cause more to cling on. I have had a couple who have to have these removed occasionally, and excess fluff cut away with scissors. During hot weather when flies are out, flystrike can be a danger with poopy butts. And pasty butt is a thing. Sometimes a soapy washing in a bucket of warm water is needed during warm weather.
