Hardware cloth around perimeter?

I have a silly question but hey ya won't know till you ask!!!!

We are in the final stages of building our coop/run. We purchased a 100' roll of hardware cloth so will have enough left to cover the ground as a perimeter barrier. Is it strong enough to be used in that fashion? I just want to make sure the girls are safe and sound once out in the run.

A heavier gauge wire mesh would be better, IMO...save the HC for future use.

Good examples of apron installation, tho I'd not recommend 1/2" HC...go with 14ga 1x2 or 1x1, will hold up much longer and is easier to lay flat.

I personally think that hardware cloth should work just fine Just make sure the apron comes out at least 12". Everyone has different opinions, but I used hardware cloth on part of mine and its holding up great.

Hardware cloth will work fine, and I personally use it. I wedge it in between two pieces of wood and i have never had any issues. However, if you live in an area with many predators, then I would go with aart's option.
