After looking at another thread in this section about good deals on hardware cloth I noticed there are different gauges.

The choices are 19 gauge, 23 gauge, and 27 gauge. The higher numbers are cheaper so does that mean that the lower the number, the stronger it is?

Thanks me too we loss our first set of chicks to a predator so trying to keep our new batch safe ! Gonna get 19 gauge

we use a two stage setup. 2" x 4" 12 gauge wire on outside, 19 gauge 1/2" Hardware cloth inside. The 2" x 4" goes into the ground with an outward swoop to a depth of 20" and a length out of 24".

This pen area is mostly used when we are away from home, the chicks free range over the homestead when we are home.

I have a question for chicken coops and runs what size of hardware cloth is the best? 1/4" or 1/2"? I would like the 1/4" however, I can not find it in 19 gauge. Will the 1/2' be good to use on the coop as well as the run?

Use the 1/2 inch. Stronger and and won't "clog" as easily.
