Strangely enough Alberta is considered rat free. We have an official government rat patrol on all 4 borders. Never seen one here though I do know they run the border every now and thenWeasels and mink, also rats can climb too.
Bears? Add electric.
Big dogs? Electric and/ or 2"x4" woven wire over the hardware cloth on the lower 4'.
Mine is all stapled to the framing, then 1"x4" boards screwed over the top.

No bears but we do have weasels occasionally. Dogs could be an issue since most in my area are on shock collars which work only when they are working.Weasels and mink, also rats can climb too.
