Chicks will arrive in less than a month. I understand that you should never use cedar shavings with chickens. We will use some pine shavings in the brooder. We also have some pine shavings to start off in the coop.
My question: Is it okay to start mixing hardwood shavings in with the pine in the coop? My husband is a carpenter, and we usually have lots of hardwood shavings around. I'd be interested to know if there is a problem with this, either due to some kind of toxicity or if they are somehow less effective.
I appreciate any advice!
