Also! When you stop turning, the deepest part of the air cell should face up! A lot of the 'how to hatch' pages don't say anything about that, and it's very important!

They should naturally end up that way, since there's more mass in that direction... but if you're marking air cell developments, you can be certain.

Although I've had pips toward the "bottom", and those have hatched. I was worried they'd get stuck trying to zip against the ground, but fortunately other chicks hatched first and soccer'd them into a better position.

I know I'm late to answer, but I did 65% for lockdown on my hatch and I had 17 of 18 eggs make it. Or rather I aimed for 65% and usually it stayed between 64 and 70.

During the first 18 days I kept it around 45%. I was a little relaxed about it and sometimes it dipped down in the 30s overnight, and sometimes up to 50 after filling it, but not that high or low for very long.

I actually ordered 12 more BBS Ameraucana eggs right after that lol. They STILL haven't arrived. Then when my own girls started laying out of the blue...well, I just HAVE to see what on earth an Ayam Cemani/Cornish X will turn out like, lol.

Oh, and my Ayam Cemani breeder friend in Florida messaged me last night to tell me he's dropping eight more eggs in the mail to me today. Apparently he wants me to breed his hens to my roo pretty badly lol...but since I keep killing them in my incubator, he's gotta keep sending me more...!

I WISH I could have found local Biele eggs! I'm planning to keep a small flock of them (if my eggs hatch ok, if not I will get more) and I'll let a Biele roo cover a few Red Ranger hens I'm raising up on regular laying feed. Hopefully if they last a few years I can get some of their genetics into a true DP/utility breed and be in a better position to feed my bottomless pit of a teenager.

While I'd love to have some of the hard to find breeds to sell eggs and chicks here, finished pen space is still a little limited so I have to focus on being able to self sustain meat and eating eggs first.

*sigh* I sooo miss my last farm and barn. I had plenty of well fenced acres and a nice big barn
Here....less acres and only New Zealand type fencing. Barn...I guess one could call it that...while it's still upright.
But, the trade off is no more mortgage! Yay! And for that I'm very thankful.
