My new Nurture 360 incubator was showing 55% for the humidity until we got home from a weekend trip to discover, at day 9 of incubation, it was on 65% and since yesterday, is on 65%. I had asked my pet sitter to add 1/4 cup of water to it each day, as I was worried about humidity levels falling too low, but was this too much water? Will this kill my eggs if 65% until lockdown day? Has anyone had issues with Nurture 360 resetting the default humidity level to 65% before lockdown day..... wondering if this is going on, too.

Did the humidity of your room change?

The NR 360 has no automatic controls for humidity. It only reads what it is. You control that by room humidity, adding (or removing) water, and vent configuration.

As to the humidity, it is rather high. Even 55% is high imo for days 1-18, but then again I only dry hatch (no added water for 1-18 days).

Yes, the window in the room had been open when it was reading 55%.

It was.

65% is a proper humidity from day 18 on until they hatch.

What kind of eggs are you incubating?
How old are they?
Were they shipped?

I would clean out the surplus water and just incubate at 45% humidity.
They are chicken eggs that I collected from my chickens. The oldest are 9 days old, then I have some 8 day, 7 day, and 6 day old eggs, all collected. Are the different development stages affecting the humidity in the incubator? Do you think the 65% for up to 2 days has killed them?

As long as you have put them in the incubator all at the same time it does not matter and they will develop similarly.

You will not have killed them, the high humidity will just not allow the proper evaporation of the albumen, and as it was only for two days they should be fine.

Thank you! I just figured out the cause of the high humidity: my pet sitter filled the 1st and 2nd water compartments, which shouldnt both be filled until lockdown. I drained the 2nd one and humidity is going down.

I just bought 2 NR 360 incubators and have them both full, I’m trying the dry hatch method, here in Texas we have high humidity, and mine has been staying from 35%-43%.
I’m not going to candle until day 18, then I will take the turner out and add no water.
This is my first time incubating eggs, and I have watched a lot of videos with 100% dry hatching that was very successful.
I guess it doesn’t hurt to experiment?

It may work, but I'd worry about those that struggled with low humidity that hatch having some type of ailment, internally or externally. Are you going to weigh your eggs?

I've hatched over 350 silkie chicks since February alone, and just do it the traditional way. 45% to lockdown, 65% -70% lockdown.

I wish you a great hatch!

Thanks, there’s a lot I don’t know about the ailments, I just watched about dry hatching on YouTube, a lot of them that do it have very successful hatch rates, a lot have said they will dry hatch from now on.
My dad use to hatch a lot of eggs, but I never got with him about it.
One of my sons have done it the traditional way adding water, his chicks would develop and never hatch, 0%.
I’m learning, is all I can say.
