Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 Incubator is AMAZING!

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to candle correctly with this incubator. I’ve been spending a lot of time keeping the temp/ humidity perfect and don’t know how I would open it. Do you simply take the lid off and take them out or would the temperature drop kill them? I’ve been watching videos trying to see how they do it but it always just cuts to the candling part. If anyone could show or explain it to me it would help a lot

Temperature drop for 30 minutes or so is not an issue. Hens come off nest for an hour or so each day. Kids and I candled a clutch yesterday after taking off lid and turning off all other lights in room. Kids can distinguish good from duds before eggs are properly on light source. Replace good and cull duds. It takes us about 5 minutes to do 22 eggs even when taking into account need for stool youngest kid stands on to see.

Yep. I've even read there were some studies that showed that some (reasonable) cooling each day was good for them, and improved health/hatch rate.

One tip I've seen is to add something black to cover the area around the candling light. Something to block the 'glow' that the light leaks through the top. It'll go a long way towards improving internal visibility. Something as simple as a circle of construction paper with a hole for the light would even do the job.

Mr. Anderson, question, is the red plug in port B of the water reservoir. I have noticed with mine that when I accidentally bump the plug out the temperature will fluctuate a little. Just a thought(trying to help)...

If no water in reservoir B, it looks like their would be additional air flow coming in through it if plug removed.

I appreciate it!

The plug is in. This shows last night's temp swings. I haven't been in the room since 10pm last night.

It's just up and down in a fairly large, 2.5 degree swing.

The average is still reasonable though...so I'm running with it!

It's going to vary in just about any incubator, the turner rotates all the way around the incubator so it makes up for hot and cold spots which is really nice so you don't have to rotate your eggs.

The humidity you're running your incubator at is quite low for an NR360 though. Is there a reason you're running it so dry?

Yes on the variable. I'm figuring if I closely plotted the position of the sensor at the low spots, it would be fairly consistent.

With the humidity, it's fairly humid here. In talking with a few people that have had great hatches in the area, they recommend between 20% and 30% early on. Check the air pocket at day 7 etc, and adjust accordingly. They say it's easier to slow air pocket development than it is to increase it later in the hatch. I guess the pocket responds to humidity better than it does to the lack of it?

They also recommend this incubator, so we'll see 😁.
