Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 Incubator is AMAZING!

Ok so after two great hatches I reloaded it but I cannot get the humidity to drop! I let it run, it's on basically no water and instructions say not to run it dry? I'm assuming because we had some heat but it's cool now and still at 60. I even had a fan going. Vent is all the way open. Ideas?

I run it with no water when drying the incubator before putting up to store it. It won't hurt the incubator to run dry, I think it's just recommended not to run this particular incubator without water when you're incubating eggs. I'm sure after a day or two it will drop back down.

For future reference be careful not to flip the lid over when cleaning the top. I just hold it up while cleaning it. You're less likely to get water into the digital parts by cleaning it this way. It's possible that it's reading higher from getting water into the components.

Thank you! I'll drain it and let it dry I was careful not to flip it, I just used a damp towel with a little bleach and just wiped the sides.

Is the ambient humidity higher than before?

Mine is bone dry and reading 42% lol.

In semi related news...the power has been out for an hour. Luckily we have residual hot water, AND I keep my water set to 150F.

Good thinking. I hope your power comes back soon!

We have our incubators hooked up to a computer UPS - uninterruptible power source. (Hubby works in IT, so when a company is throwing out retired computer stuff, he can salvages items. Free is always good) The UPS works to protect items plugged into it from electrical surges, but it also has a battery to keep power going for a while. Depending on the battery it may only be 5 min, but that gives me time to wrap up incubator. More important is that the brown outs can cause severe damage to electronics. Protecting your incubator from surges is important and can be done with a cheap power strip.

This is fantastic. LOL! Fingers crossed for your babies!

It worked!!

It had dropped 5°F by the time I got the water setup. 2x 150°F insulators brought it right back to 99°F almost instantly....and it hovered there for about an hour and a half till the power came back on lol. I actually wonder how long it would have gone!!

I also filled the same size aluminum pot with a lid, and put it in the brooder. I think the chicks liked it better than the lamp, because they'd go play, then when they got chilled they'd go pass out against it lol.

I use a heat plate and it's much like you're describing. I'll never go back to using a heat lamp. It seems way more natural and they sleep through the night completely silently.
