Has any of you gotten sick from kissing/cuddling your chickies?

They can carry all kinds of germs and bacteria that could make us sick. Salmonella is just one. Good chicken farmers wash their hands before handling chicks too so they don't get OUR germs. I would just love your chickens the way you do and be mindful that they have germs and wash up afterward.

This is an article from the CDC explaining more. https://www.cdc.gov/healthypets/pets/farm-animals/backyard-poultry.html#tabs-1-3

That's true!

I don't recall my Pa Shook and dad who got me started in raising chickens ever kissing or cuddling them, a practice that I have continued to this day. There are far too many diseases on both sides of the ledger that can be shared.

Probably not smart….and I know it, but I do kiss mine once in a while on their heads. And nuzzle them. I do wonder about getting sick from it. I haven’t been yet, but we’ve only had them a little over a year, so I am probably not a good person to listen to :oops::oops:

Hahaha dang... It's hardddddd!!

I occasionally lift them up to my face so I can make eye contact and they often get an "air kiss" at that point. But I try to be wary of any closer contact.

(That being said, when I had a rooster as a kid I'd let him snuggle up under my sweaters and I definitely got completely covered in germs, lol. Nobody told me about lice and mites I guess 😂)
