Has any one ever raised hens to sell?

This is coming from someone who has been looking for hens/or point of lay pullets for weeks now but no one has them--not even at the 15$ going rate, that I have seen advertised before the holidays.. I DO NOT want to mess with chicks-

I want a colorful flock as well as eggs,. Hens I would concider: Buff Op, RIR, Barred Rocks, Wheaten Marans or Welsummer and Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers.. I love the standard heavy breeds but many people like the bantam breeds==silkies, cochins.

If I were selling laying hens, I would forgo any roosters--Many aren't allowed to have them and roosters can be had for a 'dime a dozen' or free, should they ever need one.. There are dozens listed on craigs list and almost every forum I read..Dixe

Hope this isn't considered thread hi-jacking... I'm in WA state near Seattle and Everett and I would love to raise both fancies and heritage breeds from day olds to sell as P.O.L pullets. Hens around here go from $15 - $25 each, and I've seen those prices for young ones under 16 weeks.

Is there anyone in my area who knows what the market might be like here and what sort of profit I'd be likely to make?

If you have you own breading stock, incubator an plenty of pasture to raise them on you should make a good profit especially if your close to a big city.(but not to close)

If you have to buy your day olds or feed mostly commercial feed your chances for profit are slimmer.
