I'm curious as to whether anyone has tried this, or uses this technique in place of decapitation. It sounds like quail would be the right type/size of bird, but I'm afraid of not doing it right.

Kinda my thinking too. I'll take @Ravenlover's advice and leave the dislocation technique to Bear Grylls.I'm too scared to mess it up. A quick decapitation is certain and as humane as I can get.
