Has anyone bred Pekin and welsh harlequin ducks together??

I just finished reading this whole thread. I am so sorry DavisDucks about all the trouble little Joy has been having. You have made a Herculean effort to help her. In the video it appears that her hock/ankle joint is bent backwards. I would guess that she was born with slipped tendons- that is like your Achilles’ tendon slipping from around the back of your ankle around the side and eventually sliding to the front reversing the direction your joint faces. These tendons are very strong and will tighten/shorten over time. After this much time has passed I’m afraid it is irreversible. And painful. She will never be able to walk and will injure herself more by trying. I am sorry to be so blunt about this after all you two have gone through. The bruising around the joint is a sign of bleeding. I don’t know how meloxicam is metabolized in ducks but for future reference if you have to give a tiny dose of medication draw up 0.1 cc, fill the 1 cc syringe the rest of the way with 0.9 cc water then you have 10 doses. Repeat this as necessary to get an accurately small dose. Depending on the medication it may not be stable for long once diluted. Only do this with oral medications.
I understand. Thank you so much for getting back to me. So am I understanding correctly that this WAS fixable???? Not how, but WAS?? @CatWhisperer

If you snipped the tendons she would not have use of her legs, have no control over them and would cause a lot of tissue injury to them. I dont think it would be a good life. Please dont beat yourself up about whether it would have been treatable early. Hindsight is always 100%.
I just dont understand why the vet I brought her to didnt catch this. He didnt even really look at her legs, just said it was nuerological.

Also, curious...what causes the bruise/bleeding? And you dont think with massaging or bending them correctly some, will help? (Sorry for the questions...just pulling at every whisp of hope I've got) @CatWhisperer

Does the Metacam seem to be helping with the pain
Sometimes, I think so. The only time she really ever "screech-chirps" (which she also does when eating and I'm taking to long switching food & water back & forth:p shes spoiled rotten) when you lay her down a certain way. I pretty much know how to lay her so shes comfortable but every now & then she just has to wiggle herself to get comfy. Then, she just sits back and relaxes, looks around, nipping what's around her or chirping...... With the meds & Without. Hard to tell really.
OH!!!! AND BY THE WAY....... SHE JUST ATE A GREAT DINNER. I had to refill her little cup.:ya:bow:wee:clap:love

Erin, I don't know about the massaging but I don't think bending is a good idea because the tendons are in the wrong position, opposite of where they should be and they are getting tighter which probably is causing her pain. If you could only push the tendon around to where they should be but I don't know how you could do that at this point.
