No matter how long I stare at my eggs, I NEVER see a pip. I leave for one hour and come back, and its there. But who here has actually been lucky enough to actually SEE it? What does it look like? Does it happen suddenly?

Just curious

My last hatch I did. On day 22, I candled the remaining eggs and most were dead, but the last one I picked up peeped at me. I candled and saw it moving around and slammed the bator shut and stood there. About 30 seconds later, pip!!!! That thing hatched completely in 30 minutes.

I've never been there, dang it! I have to just make myself walk away from the incubator.

This was my first in all the time I've been hatching. Honestly it wasn't that exciting. I like to see them pop out of the shell.

i once missed a pip by a minute. LITERALLY. i was watching them (more like STARING at them) and i got up to use the restroom and when i got back, there was a pip!! i missed it!!

Sure, I've seen the first pip. A little fleck of shell pops off. Very, well, "flat" amusement. Now, what IS amusing is watching a vigorous chick (or duck) go to town and saw a circle through that shell in 30 minutes! THAT is amusing. Lots of them are slow about hatching, but I love the Tasmanian devil hatches.

I have never actually seen them pip. I have helped free stuck chicks when I have humidity problems does that count ?

Honestly the pip was not exciting compared to seeing it pip, zip and hatch in 30 minutes. It was a full day behind the rest and just wanted out.
