Has anyone ever felt guilty over culling roos?

Only if I have been using it for a long time in the breeding pen, and it has been a good rooster, good breeder, just time to replace. Those, I try to rehome. If not, I will eat them, unless the are silkies. I just can't eat the silkies for some reason. Can't even kill them and let someone else eat them.

oh yes i feel so bad. but if he's a roo with attitude then . i can only say fried chicken tonight!
if i kept all my roos i would go broke. a roo must have a kind and gentel mammer, good with other flock menbers and my grandchildern.
good keeper of the flock and remenber i am the boss.
yes i have a roo named peepers. he is a faverolle and he is all that above and more we have had him since a chick and everyone know peeps. he will never see a pot of boiling water.
it is hard to find people who will keep a roo,if you can you will be lucky.

So this thread is old but after being attacked yesterday and today by a 5 week old roo (smallest one of the bunch and he packed a mean bite!) I was upset, but not upset enough to be done with this cute roo living. Until it jumped on top of another 5 week old chick and it was trying to rip its comb off! At that point I went into mama bear mode for my baby flock and ended the stupid roo's life!

I could not justify passing this monster off onto some other poor person and letting its terrorist behaviour go on! So, it was swift and painless and now I feel crazy guilt! But at least my other sweet sweet babies are safe!

Yes, until you realize how much more comfortable the flock is. If you want just pets, just have hens. But if you have a flock, with a rooster, if you love new chicks, well then you get to add but you have to subtract for flock management. I keep a flock, I solve for peace in the flock, I kept a flock, but the birds in it, come and go.
