Has anyone ever had "rotor rooter" aka;sinus surgery???

Sorry to the original poster if I stole your thread. I want to hear about how many people had good results from this surgery. I know one person here that is on their second one in 4 months. And they regret it. The surgery scares me. But Im getting desperate and really want to get rid of this problem.

Thanks for the advice beekissed.

I rarely eat dairy. I dont drink milk, I dont like the taste of it any more. I used to be lactos intolerant. But after I had my last kid I can now drink it with out it going straight through. But from not having milk for a long time, I dont like it. When I did have state health insurance while I was pregnant. I went to nose specialists. And on their advice I would cut one food item out of my diet at a time. Nothing seemed to work.

The nose specialist tried me on all kinds of allergy pills and over the counter nose sprays. None helped at all. Not even the steroid kinds. Then right when they were talking about surgery. The doctor moved to another state. Then I got a new doctor. He wanted to see the results and tried all the stuff I had already taken, that didnt work. By the time he said surgery. I no longer had my health care. And they wanted $6,000 down for the surgery. I could do payments on the rest. But those fees didnt include hospital stay. Or the anstegialogist (spelling???- the person that puts you to sleep. They said it would cost any where from $15,000 and up for the surgery. And at the rate I could pay back, it would take me a lifetime. $6,000 is about 5 months worth of income. And it all goes on current bills. We already have the cheapest apartment in town. We are trying to buy a mobile home in a park on payments for the same amount we are paying here. And when we payed it off then we could save money for my nose. If I can last that long. When I sleep at night my tongue gets stuck to the roof of my mouth. And I have stopped breating a few times.

My breath hasnt been effected yet. But when I am really really swollen I can taste mucus. And wake up with it on my teeth. I know gross. But it is an important syptom.

I also had my adniods taken out as a kid. They bled all the time. I would get nose bleeds from just playing to much.

Yes, when I was a kid I got alot of sinus infections. And was on antibiotics alot for it. Right now, I usually have a sinus infection all the time. At least half of the time. Now the only help I can get for that is antibiotics put straight into my blood stream, like when I was in the hospital after giving birth to my son. But now that I am older. My nose is just getting way worse. But at least when I was a kid, my nose was clear when it wasnt infected.

Well I think I wrote enough of a book, Im going to stop now.

i have taken massive amounts of antibiotics, allergy diets, nasal sprays etc.Ive had chronic sinus infections for quite some time. When I started getting the pains like someone was stabbing me with a knife on my forehead on the right side and I lost vision in the right eye.The pain was so intense I would be throwing up for days, worse than a migraine.I went to the eye Dr and I went to the dentist and then onto a oral surgeon thinking it was a front tooth.I then was told to get it for a CT scan asap. The Dr called and said get into a ENT ASAP and I did.He showed me the CT scan and the growth, along with all the thickness around all 3 sinuses. He then told me I had no holes in any of the sinuses for drainage as well as the sinuses being packed full to the max of infection. He said that is why I have the severe pain, pressure builds up and w/the infection and growth it has no place to drain/or go causing pain.So he has to cut away the lining, clean out the infection and remove the growth. He said it is NOT a polyup,Im praying it is not a cancerous growth. He said it was on the top of the top sinus, but not dangerously close to my brain. The good news is my septrum is clear and straight, despite having a broken nose 2x's in my life.I just am nervous abt anyone working that close to my brain/eyes etc.He is the BEST Dr in our area and has even operated on my primary Dr,he was highly recommended by many health professionals and he also has a great bedside manner which is rare in Dr's that are that outstanding in their field.I am blessed with a awesome primary Dr and trust her 100%..I really dont like the "being put to sleep part" of any surgery either.Thats why Id like to hear from anyone who has had it.How was the recovery? How bad did your head hurt after and for How long???? How much bruising and swelling did you have?? Thanks so much

Wow. The stabbing pain over my right eye after an infection was an irritated nerve, I was put on antiseizure medicine and It works...as long as i do not forget to take it. Then the stabbing reminds me. But I sleep well.

I was THE most nervous about the 'putting to sleep' part any anything else. talk to you dr. about it, and even the gas guy will spend the time needed to set your fears at ease.

I think it is because we put our animals 'to sleep', when we should say 'euthanize.'
You will be fine.
and it needs to be done. and once it is done, you may not have sinus infections there again, because air willl be able to get up there and keep the infections at bay. Trust your doctors.
Best wishes!

I had the surgery where they removed cysts and polips and they straitened my nose... the surgery worked well until my cousin forgot that I had it done and twisted my nose(we were in high school) also broke my nose a couple of other times... I have sinus problems now... the wrorse part of the surgery for me was the packing in the sinus cavity and having it removed stings a bit... also make sure you sleep propped up after surgery

I went through 7 months of gradually harder and harder-core antibiotics and was sea-sick for the whole time, unable to make myself eat- nothing helped, and when I got down to 114 # and looked like ET I scheduled the surgery.

Turns out there wasn't even any bacteria present, but the sinus valves that are supposed to drain fluid just weren't big enough to do the job, so I was under constant pressure, and the sinuses behind my ears were full and causing inner-ear pressure. Never had any trouble with my nose, but headaches and nausea and dizziness were awful before.

I felt fantastic within about 2 months, but the recovery is a solid 2-3 weeks, even when young and vigorous. I didn't have to be packed, and it was still horrible. Way worse than recovering from childbirth!

Worth it? Yes.
