Has Anyone ever moved because of chickens?

We didn't move because of the chickens, my dh retired so we move closer to our daughter who lives in a very small town. However, we would not even look at a place unless it had at least 5 acres so we could expand our little flock of 5 marans.

We moved here from Maine last year...talk about c-o-l-d, l-o-n-g, winters with tons of snow...

I wish the winters were warmer up north too so that people will stop moving to my state and overpopulating the beautiful south. No offense to you though, there are just way to many people moving to NC.

summers aren't super hot there???

We live in Maine too and are considering a move. Actually, yesterday we looked at a house in Gray.... much more rural than where we live in South Portland right now. I am just sick to death of looking out my windows at driveways and cars and neighbors houses 15 feet away, rather than trees and fields. Plus, my daughter and I have spent like 75 hours already working on getting the city to allow us to have chickens, and they still have not voted on it. Grrrrrrr. It is so frustrating. Absolutely ridiculous that neighbors can have snarling, barking dogs, or 6 semi-feral cats who use my garden as a litter box, yet we can't have a few lovely hens.

A-N-Y-W-A-Y. We're going to be going on a long (4-5 year) sailing trip in a few years.... we'd assumed we'd keep this house and rent it out, like we did on our recent 2-year trip, but then we realized we'd have to then live in it for 2 more years when we return, in order not to have to pay capital gains tax. After our experience returning to suburban life after the last trip, I know we're not gonna want to do that. After living in nature, on the water, living simply, purely, self-sufficeintly, coming back to suburban America was just so depressing. So now we're thinking of selling the house before we leave; that way we'll be free to move WHEREVER we want when we return, with no waiting period. It's maybe stupid from an investment standpoint (more equity in the house 5 years later, and probably higher selling price, too) but I just couldn't bear having to live here for 2 more years at that point. We'll be nearly 50 then, too, and after by breast cancer experience I just feel that life's way too short to waste time like that.

I dunno, maybe we're stupid. Trading in a happier life "at the moment" for more financial security in the future. But then we'd be free to move to wherever we liked, be it New Zealand, North Carolina, or wherever....... and be assured that we'll check the restrictions on keeping chickens FIRST before we buy a new house!!!

Come on, I said no offense.

I deleted my other posts because there seems to be people who really just don't know how to take things. Everyone move where ever you want and enjoy the new development taxes you'll pay!!!!

Now back to chickens.

In 7 years my DH retires and our plan is to move - probably just a little further south in Illinois but that depends on where my DS ends up with his new wife. One thing is for sure it will be in the country where my chickens can roam freely! and I can have roosters that crow as loud as they want!
