We have an oversized deck and we have a huge space under the deck that would work perfect for the coop and the run. I am just really worried about stressing out the chickens if they hear us at night, if we go out on the deck after dark. Help please:eek:(

It's not a good idea to put a chicken coop under the deck. You could stress them out at night and deprive them of sleep. Plus, chickens need a good bit of direct sunlight every day and a roof above them will block the sunlight, especially in the winter. You should keep the coop out in the yard somewhere.

If the coop itself is the only thing under the deck and the run is outside of the deck, would that be enough sunlight for them? They are also going to get yard time in the full sun, so I am not sure if that matters as well. I am just worried about predators, and we are thinking that under the deck would be a good place. However I do not want to stress out the chickens, or let go of my deck time at night with my husband.

If the run is on the outside of the deck, then yes, that should give them plenty of sun. Our chickens get yard time as well. I guess a little time out on the deck at night won't hurt, and they might get used to it.

I personally would design a chicken tractor that could be placed under the deck. With large clean out doors and wheels easy to roll out when it is time to clean.

Just how much clearance is there under the deck? Is it a space that you would be able to walk in under it when you want to clean it out? If its low enough that you would have to be on your hands and knees, you're not going to want to clean it out at all.

Some pictures of the porch would be helpful.

And don't forget that chickens poop - a lot. And flies like poop - a lot. You can try DE (diatomaceous earth), some say that helps. But with the coop under your deck you're going to have more of them, and if you and your husband enjoy your deck time that might be something you want to take into account.
