Has anyone ever raised Canada goose goslings?

Geese just love to nibble on things it doesn't matter if it's alive, try giving them other things to nibble on a head of cabbage hanging inside the pen or brooder. or a head of lettuce . something to occupy their time and make sure what ever your keeping them in is large enough so they aren't cramped. and lots of outside time on nice sunny warm days, with supervision of course. Be sure to offer grit when feeding anything other than their starter feed.

Canada goslings are also attracted to red and we gave them watermelon to help stop that. They love it!

In May 2010 a clutch(?) of Canadian/Domestic Goose cross goslings were hatched on a military base. I just returned in 2013 to see if I could find them, and I did. There were five chicks... the parent was a Canadian Goose, the other parent was a White Domestic Goose. There was also another male Canadian Goose with them. The eight are still together and do not seem to have added to their group. They stay close to each other although there is a flock of regular Canadian Geese nearby. So, I'm curious. Are the five babies sterile? How old are they when they usually find a mate and reproduce? Since they are all still together after three years and in the same area... I wonder what they will do in the future. They do seem just a little smaller than the other Canadians.

Crosses between a canada goose and a domestic goose are sterile, they can/will find a mate but nothing will come from their eggs.

I am thinking about buying a couple of goslings, basically to have them free roam around the property. I love honkers and the sounds they make and i think they would make a great addition to the farm!! Pinioned of course!!............Jason

PS- Do they remain friendly or they get wild like most other wildfowl?

Hi. Canada Geese adults are very calm and tame.
This year, I've bred these 4 beautiful goslings.

When they have eggs and goslings they turn a little agressive, only to protect the progeny. But the rest of the year they are very smart.

Jason - hi I live in Copperopolis and I bought baby ducks at tractor supply in Angles Camp . Well I out of 3 is a Canadian honker. The other 2 are mallards. What should I know about this goose?

Rhonda
I got my goosling, which I'm pretty sure is a Canada, from the local feed store in Modesto. I was a bit discouraged when I realized s/he was probably a Canada Goose because I thought s/he might be nasty because of my experiences with other Canada geese, but Houdini is now 5 weeks old and is super sweet.

I think it is just a matter of imprinting and bonding. Of course, during breeding season even the sweetest goose may get persnickity, especially if you have a mated pair.

Somebody in Livermore raising wood ducks- whoda thunk.
