Has anyone ever tried growing Rhubarb in the south?

I planted some last spring. I put it on the north side of the house so it is shaded. It has a big flower stalk right now. So I guess I should remove that? I'm closing on my new house tomarrow and will have to move it soon.

You better watch what you wish for!! In my backyard I have tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, kumquat, and loquat trees. I had a lime tree but the nasty freeze we had this year killed it.

And that's why it does not grow here. It doesn't like the sustained heat. In another month or so our overnight lows will be in the seventies all the way until sometimes in October. Combined with high humidity it takes the starch right out of plants that want a cooler clime.

Lowes, Wal Mart, Home Depot and many other such chains will be happy to sell you plants that don't have a hope of growing here. They do it every year. My wife is a good New England girl and likes the stuff so although I can't abide it I have looked into growing it for her. I've never found anyone in the coastal South that has managed it. The mountains are different.
