Has anyone ever tried to do surgery on a chicken that is internally laying? WARNING ( semi graphic p

I have fears of it returning. However for now, she is fine. I check her abdomen often just to make sure that I don't feel any masses like i did before. She is putting weight back on finally. I am very pleased on how she is and has been doing. I can only pray that it continues. Rags is such a nice and gentle hen and she is a good momma hen also. Thanks to all for everything. :)

Just wanted to make sure you had all the facts and were not blindsided when it recurred. I didn't notice anyone saying that it was something that came back, even if you removed the masses, so I wanted to interject that, just for the sake of complete information. I hope she is with you for a good long time and is feeling good.

Rags is still doing great. Have not noticed any lumps in her abdomen still. Also have not seen her lay any eggs but that is ok, I'm just glad to still have her around. She still has no feathers on her back end an looks kind of funny but she acts like all the other chickens. :) Just thought I would give everyone an update.

Up until last night Rags was doing excellent and was the proud mommy of 8 chicks. We had some kind of predator break in to our grow out pen last night. It killed Rags and 5 of her chicks. So this has not been a good day for me. As fer as Rags goes though, you would have never known that i did the surgery on her. I hope this thread may serve as an inspiration to anyone that has a hen going through this. It is possible for your hen to live longer and be happy. I know Rags was and that is the little peace i have.. And the three chicks that she hatched and raised will be well loved and spoiled.. Good luck to all of you chicken lovers, it is't always easy and fun..... Thanks for reading my thread..

I am in tears at the dreadful news of your loss of the wonderful Rags.....and her babies too. You must be devastated and I cannot offer any comfort save for the fact that both you and Rags have given us food for thought and so much hope for a future beyond "internal laying" and associated illnesses that seemed insurmountable to overcome....thank you so much for sharing her and all of your wonderful dedicated information in your endeavours....we will mourn her loss with you...Rags will always be in our hearts too.

Thank you. Yes, it has been a difficult day to say the least. She was a wonderful bird that was the main reason why i did the surgery on her. I am thankful that i still have her three babies. They are safe inside tonight. I'm not taking the chance on the predator coming back and taking them. Thank you for your comforting words.. It means alot to have people understand my pain..
