Has anyone ever used an aquarium for a homeade incubator?

Just wondering. I was sitting there looking at my 40 gallon tank this morning and I just imagined it as a see through incubator (something my kids would love). I am sure someone on BYC has ha the same thought and actually turned it into a bator.

Hi, I'm the one that NancyP posted the link for. Please feel free to ask me any questions you have. One thing...I think a 40 gallon might be too big unless you're planning to hatch a lot of eggs. I think the humidity would be a bit harder to control with that size. Let me know if you decide to do it. I'd love to hear about someone else's aquarium bator and how well it succeeded.

How big is your humidity hole (your top is so clear I can't see it!) Did you add water under the little tote? I think I am going to have my girls make one as a science project! It looks great!

I think my humidity hole was about 2 inches by 3 inches. Can't remember for sure, but it's not critical as long as you have an extra piece of vinyl to put over it. That way you can adjust the size as needed to control the humidity.

As far as the water, yes I put about an inch and a half in the bottom of the tank, and put the smaller Rubbermaid type container on a couple of bricks. I added a tiny amount of bleach to keep algae from forming. (Probably less than a teaspoon)

Please feel free to ask me any more questions you might have.

My kids loved having the aquarium because they could see everything happening. It was wonderful to have such great visibility.

I've love to hear how your's goes if you decide to do it.
