I got a email saying I should buy this stuff for my chicks from ideal. I recently ordered some chicks from them and would like to know if anyone has ever used this product. I'm sure their just trying to milk me for every cent they can but I wanted to know if this stuff actually works. Thanks.

Hello,

I ordered the grogel plusB with my chicks and ducks from Ideal. I don't know if it is because of the grogel, but I haven't lost any. I am very careful about sanitation and stuff too, though.

I ordered some pullets that will come next week, and I am debating about buying it for them. I do wonder if the material that forms the gel plays any part in the pasting up that some of the chicks have. I will be interested to see what others think, too.

The color is kinda wierd to. I wouldn't think that green would actually look attractive. So yours did eat the stuff up?

I used it for my chicks from Ideal. It does look disgusting and I can't really say that they ate it up, but they did pick at it and all are vigorous and healthy and lived. I don't know if they actually have to have it or anything.

I got some with my last couple of orders. I've always had really good success at keeping my little babies alive anyway but this stuff certainly didn't make my luck any worse. They may have had a little quicker start, any chicks who came looking a little puny straightened up right away first day instead of having to nurse them along for a couple of days and I just thought it was kinda cool looking myself.

My chicks played in it. I took it out after the first couple hours. As soon as I took them out of the shipping box, I dipped their beaks in the water and then sat them down IN their feeder. They started eating immediately, so I didn't worry about it. Gro-gel might come in handy with a weak chick though.

I got it last year with my ideal order and used it the first day. Not sure if it helped, but I did have good luck with my chicks. I onloy mixed half of it up, it says it is enough for 100 chicks. Saved other half in package to use with this years order.

Good to know, that the packet can be divided up. Thanks.

And yes - I would use it. The stress of have the chicks be transported cross country can take its toll.

I use chick saver which is the same type of thing. It holds a lot of water. I have used it with every hatch and they seem to like it. I use it until all the chicks are moved into the brooder then switch to starter crumbles.
