Has anyone had experience attracting crows / ravens to deter hawks?

I have all large fowl. I do encourage the crows to hang around. I have been lucky I haven't had any issues with crows getting my chicks but did have a hawk grab one. It happened so fast the only thing I could do was watch it fly off with my chick. I have a special place where I leave treats out for the crows and if a hawk comes around they usually chase it off. All of my pens are covered with good heavy duty netting. Good luck...

Ravens don't protect chickens they eat them whereas Crows give alerts and run Hawks off. If you don't know the difference between a young Raven or a Crow you are putting your chicks and flock at risk . They both eat eggs and small birds .Encouraging any predator to protect your flock means knowing what that particular predator eats so you can compensate for it. You can keep snakes, weasels , possums, owls and crows around to protect your flock from rats and Hawks but you must protect your flock from THEM in order for it to work.

crows will move into any area that has food and where nobody shoots them .. and although crows do help, theres a family of them around here that frequents my yard, they wont eliminate a hawk problem, hawks will work around them if hungry enough .. and yearly, hawks, like any other bird have uncanny memory and will be back depending on species and migratory habits, eventually theyll bring a buddy lol, and itl get worse .. sometimes theres only one 'final solution' if you got a hawk problem ..
